The Gatherists was initiated to bring creative people together casually over coffee and cake. As freelance creatives, we—Margot van der Krogt & Marieke Verdenius —felt we were missing opportunities to connect with those whose work we admired online and off. While social media platforms like Instagram provide inspiration (we met via the app too), nothing compares to face-to-face interactions.
What began in June 2017 in Amsterdam with a small group of friends has since evolved into a vibrant community of like-minded creatives. Our gatherings take place at inspiring makers’ ateliers and designers’ studios, usually with small groups of 12. We share our projects, discuss our struggles,
and hope to inspire one another. There’s no program, hidden agenda, or end goal. In October 2024,
we will celebrate our 46th edition and look forward to many more.
Since 2019, Marieke has been the sole host of The Gatherists, inviting creative-minded friends to co-host events throughout the Netherlands and occasionally abroad. We aim to foster new connections that can lead to fresh ideas, projects, collaborations, and even friendships. After all, sometimes all you need to fuel your passion is a lovely conversation and a slice of homemade apple pie!

The Gatherists is a unique concept that likes to travel too! We co-hosted get togethers with fellow creatives in London, Florence, Copenhagen and Edinburgh. But also closer to home in multiple cities in The Netherlands, where we search for the beautiful studios and ateliers where we can experience how creatives, makers and artists work. Like a coffee roastery, a gallery and interior studio or the workplace of a ceramicist or woodworker!
